Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS)

The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) is a Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) publication which is also updated regularly and maintained by the Department.

The MBS is available online via the Department of Health and Ageing websiteExternal link. From there you can search and browse through the Medicare Items or the Explanatory Notes contained within the Schedule. You can search by either the Number or Description of the Items or Notes or simply browse through the Categories, Groups and Sub-groups.

MBS Statistics

Statistics available from this website are based on the items and groups in the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS). These statistics can be broken down by patient gender and age group. Services and Benefits can be reported as count, percentage or per capita statistics. Individual MBS item statistics can be displayed as charts.

These pages are interactive and you can customise the reports to your requirements.

Provider percentile charts

Provider percentile charts show the number of services billed by peer groups for selected MBS items. You can use these charts to compare your billing data with your peers.
