Measure

We respond to all complaints about the use and disclosure of personal information and publish results in the annual report.

Performance

For the period 1 July to 30 September 2008, Medicare Australia received 27 complaints about the use and disclosure of personal information it holds. Of these complaints, 11 were found to be not substantiated, 13 were substantiated and appropriate action was taken. As at 30 September 2008, 3 complaints were still in progress.

Measure

Approaches lodged with the Commonwealth Ombudsman.

Performance

For the period 1 July to 30 September 2008, the Commonwealth Ombudsman received a total of 44 approaches regarding Medicare Australia. Of these, 7 were investigated (referred to Medicare Australia) of which 3 remain outstanding. There have been no findings of administrative deficiency.
