2003 - 2004 Annual Report

About our annual report

Our annual report has a wide range of audiences, and readers will use it in different ways, for different purposes. While our main target audience is parliamentarians, the report will also be useful for peak health professional and consumer bodies, current and potential employees and consultants, representatives of the media, and interested health consumers.

What’s in the annual report?

PART 01 sets the scene with a letter from the Chairman of the Board of the Health Insurance Commission, and a review of the year by the Managing Director.

PART 02 introduces you to the Health Insurance Commission and describes how we help people ‘live life well’. It also explains the internal and external scrutiny we have been under and gives details of our management and accountability practices.

PART 03 starts with our operations report then explains how we managed our key programs for the year: Medicare, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Branch, the Australian Organ Donor Register and the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register. It also gives details about other health payments and activities, how we go about ensuring compliance, the medical indemnity challenges we faced during the year, and how our IT infrastructure and eBusiness programs are changing the way we work.

PART 04 contains our financial statements, audited by the Australian National Audit Office.

PART 05 includes all the appendixes, expanding on a range of topics covered in the body of the report. This includes statutory reports covering our role and functions, judicial decisions and reviews, secrecy and privacy provisions, and occupational health and safety measures. Other appendixes cover freedom of information requests, our staffing overview, consultancy services, our service charter report, call centre statistics, and details about how to contact us.
