Medicare Australia is a vibrant government agency with a great Graduate Program. I joined Medicare Australia’s Graduate Program in July 2007.  The Graduate Program offered a variety of work experience related to my qualifications and provided me with sound knowledge of Medicare Australia’s business.  Upon completing the program in July 2008, I successfully gained higher duties as a Finance Officer.  With the assistance of Medicare Australia, I am currently obtaining my Certified Practicing Accountant Certificate (CPA) and have an experienced senior manager at Medicare Australia as my CPA mentor who helps me with the professional work experience requirements.  The Graduate Program has not only helped in developing my financial skills but also building professional networks within the whole organisation.  Medicare Australia for me now means a home more than a workplace. – Yan – 07/08 Graduate

The Graduate Program has given me a sound platform for career development and a holistic understanding of Medicare Australia.  Upon successful completion of the program, I moved into the area of my choice and quickly achieved permanency at the APS 5 level.  Using the knowledge and experience I gained rotating through different areas, I have since been given acting opportunities at the APS 6 level and the chance at more interesting and challenging work.  I achieved all of this within 3 months of the Graduate Program finishing, which shows that Medicare Australia's Graduate Program provides you with opportunities to fast track your career. – Tim – 07/08 Graduate

The Graduate Program at Medicare Australia has been a great way to start-off my career. My rotations were tailored to suit my marketing qualification, which I have found to be very rewarding, both personally and professionally. My mentor provided me with priceless career guidance and support throughout the program, which has continued since.

Since completing the Program in July 2008, I have secured two promotions, both of which were within sections that were my previous rotations during the program. I have been able to fully utilise the program-based knowledge and experience I gained to my advantage in both these roles. IT Graduate testimonials

I am very proud to be part of the Medicare Australia IT Graduate Program.  Even though we are Graduates, we are involved in real tasks and projects that are used to enhance our knowledge and skills, not only in IT areas but also about Medicare Australia as an organisation.  Getting help is easy. Assistance from supervisors, managers, buddies and colleagues certainly improves our knowledge and productivity.

Training courses are included as part of the Graduate Program which further concretes our understanding of Medicare Australia and fuels our enthusiasm to be involved with Medicare Australia.

The most important thing is the rotations which gives us the chance to learn and try different roles in IT; from testing and developing through to business analyst.  It is fantastic to work for Medicare Australia.  I would recommend the Medicare Australia IT Graduate Program to all recent or future Graduates. – Hien – Current IT Graduate

The Medicare Australia’s Graduate Program is a great way to make the transition from full-time study to full-time work. Graduates are involved in tasks and projects from early on ensuring that they are able to begin learning about Medicare Australia’s systems from the beginning. Help is available from all staff, not just your buddy, and previous Graduates can provide advice at a peer to peer level. Each Graduate is given a role in the organisation that is relative to their respective background. I came into Medicare Australia as a Graduate after completing the NICP (National Indigenous Cadetship Program) in 2007. On completion of my degree I received assistance in relocating to Canberra from Queensland and a career path in a large Department with room for promotion. Graduates also receive a salary above the national average for university Graduates in IT, ongoing mentoring and support from Medicare Australia staff and opportunities to further my knowledge with training and development courses. The work environment at Medicare Australia is diverse and the staff are friendly and supportive. Medicare Australia has organised regular meetings for Graduates to meet each other and to discuss issues and to provide feedback. The Graduate Program has given me an excellent opportunity to further my career in a busy IT environment currently undertaking challenging and rewarding work. – Martin – former IT Graduate
